Goodbye Twitter

When twitter was first bought by Elon Musk, I first laughed at the ridiculousness surrounding the purchase. Then, things quickly got out of hand, so I deleted my twitter account about a year ago.

I did miss a reasonable text-based social media though, so I tried out Threads. And while it’s not so bad technically, the posts that one gets to see made it feel like a feed-version of familjeliv.se, and that’s not a good thing. Plus the TikTok-y system for choosing posts made it even worse.

Hello, mastodon!

I finally did what a computer science graduate should have done a long time ago, I got me a mastodon account and joined the fediverse. I feel a bit like when I had joined twitter and started tweeting with my fellow students’ union colleagues back in 2010, it’s amazing. Plus, I get to own all my own data, I can migrate to another instance, or self-host an instance etc etc.

You may follow me on https://fosstodon.org/@tobsan. Notice how I’ve set up this site to link there in the footer as well, pretty neat, right?

Two more things

  1. FOSDEM was great, but I caught a cold. I don’t subscribe to what the fluconf proponents say (because conferences are mostly about people imho), but getting sick still sucks. Plus my wife told me “you always get a cold after FOSDEM”, so I guess that’s something to think about.
  2. I planted this years chili seeds two weeks ago, and almost all of them have sprouted into cute lil’ plants.
